about

Simply put, The Dissolution of Recall is an album about Dementia. When my father was diagnosed with Dementia, I did everything I could to learn about the disease: How it progressed, what to expect, and how to deal behaviourally with a person with Dementia. Weekly I would visit him, give my mother a break, and as a result, witness his progression. Unfortunately, the pandemic didn't help, as those with neurodegenerative diseases thrive on human interaction, and the lockdown isolation sped up his decline.

Those familiar with my musical journey know that most of my output comes from a near autopilot catharsis; however, I approached The Dissolution of Recall differently. Writing music about how I felt about my father's condition seemed one-sided, so I approached writing the album based on what I had learned about how such a heartbreaking disease advances and my father's behavior. Simply put, I composed the album from what I perceive was his perspective. Confusion and memory loss are well-known issues among people that suffer from neurodegenerative diseases; however, anxiety, frustration, anger, and, most importantly, fear are some of the more enormous hurdles; this makes The Dissolution of Recall somewhat of a challenging listen. I wanted to honor my father by touching as best I could the view from his eyes.

This album was extremely challenging to write, and this text is proving even more difficult. So much so that I am writing this just days before its release. I had even hesitated about releasing the album for quite some time. Because I believe it is personal in a very different way from all my other output; however, my friends Paul and Jeep encouraged me to release it. So I chose World Alzheimers Day as a fitting release date.

100% of the proceeds from this release I will be donating to Hope Hospice. Hope Hospice was paramount in my father's comfort in his final days and in providing quality grief counseling for my mother after his passing.

If you or a loved one are displaying signs of cognitive degeneration, please don't try and hide or dismiss it. Please seek help. You can go to www.alz.org for more info on Alzheimer's and Dementia.
